Ella Louise - Cute alert

Hey, I'm the first here!!!

I went to the old forum and there's hardly anything there. Such a shame, but I do like this type of forum.

This portrait is of a newborn. One of my friends whom I've known since we were babies has recently become the father of his first daughter.....at the age of 50!!! (He has two sons, one is in his 20's and the other is 6)
This photo was taken when she was just a few hours old

Here's the latest update. Smoothed it out with more layers.

Looking good!!! They say it's harder to draw the face of a young child than an old person, as with older people there's lot's more to the shading (all those wrinkles and lines we have!!!). With such a young baby you have to be so careful not to overshade and put lines in the face, thereby making the person look older. You obviously have this down, this looks exactly like a newborn.

This is on Bristol Board and the actual drawing, when finished, will measure about 5"x7". This is quite a bit smaller than I usually work

You're doing such a good job on the blending, the face looks smooth and line free, and the shading is so delicate, just enough to show the contours of the face.

It's very easy to go too far with toning a baby's face and it can make them look a bit mucky.
I've been building up very slowly and am almost there now, then I can work on the blanket framing her face.

This is stunning! Oh, I wish I had a drawing of my children when they were babies. What a special keepsake. I love seeing the WIP pics. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Sandie. I'm going to have to dig out the photos of my three daughters when they were new babies. We did take a lot of photos of them, so hopefully I can find some clear enough to add to my "to draw" list.
